When the driveway slopes, curves, or stops short of the street, a sliding or cantilever gate runs parallel to the fence line instead of swinging out, and it never clashes with traffic or snowbanks. Tight urban lots in Seattle and Tacoma often need a telescopic gate that folds back into itself, while narrow side yards do well with a single-leaf swing on a heavy-duty hinge.
