Expert Installation & Automation
Most gate companies have never installed on a horse property, and it shows the first time they try.
Wellington is an equestrian town. That changes almost every assumption a standard residential installer brings to the job. The entrance has to clear a truck pulling a two horse or four horse trailer, which is a very different opening width and turning radius than a passenger car. The driveway may run several hundred feet from the road, which means there is often no power anywhere near where the gate needs to go. And there are horses on the property, which means a gate that slams, clangs or moves suddenly is not just annoying, it is a genuine problem.
Interactive Gates & Security installs automatic gates, operators, access control and video intercom throughout Wellington and the western Palm Beach County equestrian corridor. Farm entrances, estate entries, barn and paddock access, and the long driveway problems that come with acreage.

Five things a horse property changes about a gate
Opening width and turning radius. A standard residential gate opening is sized for cars. A truck pulling a horse trailer needs considerably more, and it needs approach and turning room on both sides. Getting this wrong means a driver clipping a post, or having to make a three point turn on a road with a trailer behind them. We measure for the largest vehicle that will actually use the entrance, not the one parked in the driveway today.
Long driveways and no power at the road. On acreage the gate is frequently hundreds of feet from the nearest power. Two options: trench and run a dedicated circuit, which is a real excavation cost, or use a solar powered operator with battery storage. Solar is often the better answer here, and we size the array and battery to the gate's actual cycle count rather than guessing. A solar gate that dies every third afternoon was under-specified.
Horses. A gate operator near livestock should be quiet, should move at a controlled speed, and should be positioned so a startled animal is not in the swing path. Slow open and close timing, soft start and stop, and careful placement all matter. This is the detail nobody outside the equestrian world thinks about and every horse owner notices immediately.
Separate farm and residential entrances. Many properties here have a residence entrance and a working farm entrance, with completely different needs. The house gate is about security and appearance. The farm gate is about clearance, durability and letting feed deliveries, farriers, vets and trainers in without anyone walking down to open it.
Vendor and staff traffic. A working equestrian property sees more scheduled outside traffic than almost any residential property. Grooms, trainers, farriers, vets, feed and shavings deliveries, trailer pickups. Access control here is not a luxury feature, it is how the property runs.
The winter season changes everything
Wellington's equestrian season runs through the winter months, and the population and traffic on these properties change dramatically when it starts. Properties that are quiet in August are full of horses, staff, clients and vehicles in February. Many are leased seasonally.
What that means practically:
Get work done in the off season. Installing a gate during peak season on an active property is disruptive and sometimes impossible. If you are planning an entrance, the months before the season starts are when to do it.
Credentials that expire with the lease. If the property is leased seasonally, access should be issued per tenant and expire at the end of the term rather than living on forever.
Scale up and down. Access control should handle a large credential list during season and be easy to clean up after, without reprogramming everything by hand.
Reliability when you are not here. Owners who leave for the summer need the gate to keep working and need to be able to let a caretaker in remotely.

Palm Beach County, and agricultural zoning
Palm Beach County sits outside the High Velocity Hurricane Zone that governs Miami-Dade and Broward. The requirements here are different, not looser, and a contractor who works mostly in Miami will bring wrong assumptions about product approval and permitting.
Electrical work for a gate operator typically requires a permit and inspection, and the gate structure may as well depending on height and scope. On properties with agricultural or equestrian zoning there can be additional considerations around setbacks and what is permitted at the road, and Wellington has its own requirements alongside the county's.
Many equestrian communities and developments here also run architectural review. We prepare submittals as part of the job and design to a community's standards from the start rather than submitting and hoping.
Gate services in Wellington
Farm and ranch entrances. Wide openings sized for trailer traffic, durable hardware, and designs that hold up to working use rather than decorative use.
Estate entries. Ornamental iron and aluminum, masonry piers, matching columns and the kind of entrance that suits a significant property.
Solar powered gate operators. For long driveways with no power at the road. Array and battery sized to real cycle counts.
Gate operators and automation. We are a LiftMaster Verified Dealer. Operators sized to the gate's actual weight and duty cycle, with slow, controlled motion where livestock are present.
Access control. Keypads, fob and card readers, smartphone app control, telephone entry and cloud managed systems. Built for high vendor traffic with individual, revocable credentials.
Video intercom. See and speak to whoever is at the gate from the barn, the house or another state.
Safety systems. Photo eyes, loop detectors, edge sensors and the entrapment protection required under UL 325.
Paddock, barn and pedestrian gates. Matching hardware and finishes across the property.
Fencing and metalwork. Matching fence runs, entrance columns, railings and custom fabrication.
Repair and service. We diagnose and repair gates and operators regardless of who installed them, including solar systems that were undersized by someone else.

Equestrian communities, HOAs and commercial entries
Wellington has a mix of private estates, equestrian developments and commercial equestrian facilities, and a shared entry carries requirements a single driveway does not.
Emergency access is the critical one. Fire and EMS must get through without waiting, which means a Knox box, Opticom, siren activation or an equivalent override, coordinated with the local fire department. This matters more on large acreage properties where response time is already longer.
We work with property managers, associations, facility operators and general contractors on:
If your board or facility is budgeting a replacement, we will walk the property and give you real costs and an honest read on remaining life. No charge.
- Community and development entry systems
- Equestrian facility and showground access
- Resident, member, staff and vendor credentials
- Commercial yard gates, cantilever slide gates and barrier arms
- Reserve study input on gate and operator replacement cycles
- Service agreements on existing gates
What does an automatic gate cost in Wellington?
Equestrian properties vary more than suburban ones, so the range is wider. A wide farm entrance with a long solar run prices differently from an ornamental estate gate at a short driveway.
General ranges for the Wellington area:
Automating an existing gate (operator, safety devices, access control): $6,500 to $9,500
New single swing or slide gate with automation: $12,000 to $20,000
Wide farm or trailer clearance entrance: $14,000 to $24,000
Solar operator package for a long driveway with no power: Added to any of the above, quoted per site
Estate entries and equestrian facilities: Quoted per site
The two biggest swing factors here are opening width and whether power exists at the gate location. We identify both at the estimate so they are in the written price rather than appearing later.

How it works
1. Free on site estimate. We measure the opening for the largest vehicle that will use it, walk the driveway, check whether power exists at the gate location, and look at where horses are relative to the entrance. Often more than an hour on acreage.
2. Design and price. Written proposal covering gate design, opening width, operator, power approach including solar if needed, access control, safety devices, permitting and a firm price.
3. Approvals and permitting. We pull permits and prepare any community submittal.
4. Fabrication. Built to your entrance's measurements.
5. Installation. Posts and footings, gate hang, operator, power or solar, access control, safety devices, full testing with a vehicle that matches your actual traffic.
6. Walkthrough. App, keypad, manual release, battery backup, and for solar systems what to expect through a run of cloudy days.

Common questions
Can you build a gate wide enough for a horse trailer?
Yes, and it is one of the main things we get called for here. The opening needs to clear the trailer and the approach needs turning room on both sides. We measure for the largest vehicle that will actually use the entrance rather than assuming a car.
There is no power at the end of my driveway. What are my options?
Two. Trench and run a dedicated circuit, which is a real excavation cost on a long driveway, or install a solar powered operator with battery storage. Solar is often the better answer here. The key is sizing the array and battery to your actual cycle count, because an undersized solar gate dies on a cloudy week.
Will an automatic gate spook my horses?
Not if it is specified and placed properly. Slow controlled motion, soft start and stop, quieter operator selection and thoughtful placement relative to where animals are handled all matter. Tell us at the estimate where the horses actually move and we will design around it.
Do I need a permit in Wellington?
Usually yes, particularly for electrical work and often for the gate structure depending on height and scope. Palm Beach County sits outside the High Velocity Hurricane Zone, so requirements differ from Miami-Dade and Broward. Agricultural and equestrian zoning can add considerations. We handle permitting.
Can I give my farrier and vet their own access?
Yes, and it is one of the better reasons to automate a farm entrance. Individual credentials per vendor, time limited where you want, revocable at any time, with a log of who came and when.
When should I schedule the work?
If the property is active in the winter season, the off season is far easier. Installing a gate at a busy entrance during season is disruptive and sometimes not practical.
Will my gate work if the power goes out?
Yes. Battery backup is standard, and solar systems run on battery by design. Every gate also has a manual release.
Do you service gates you did not install?
Yes, most brands of gate and operator, including solar systems that were undersized originally.
